As a free and private social network between neighborhoods, Nextdoor is an easy way for you and your neighbours to talk online and stay informed about what’s going on. So it can make all of your lives better in the real world.
There are several practical advantages of using Nextdoor, such as borrowing a kit, organizing a watch group between neighbors, finding a trustworthy babysitter, getting help in finding a missing dog, finding a new home for toys, etc.
Nextdoor aims to build a trustworthy platform for neighbors to build stronger, safer, happier communities between each other worldwide.
Is it safe to share information on Nextdoor?
Nextdoor makes it safe to share your information online, due to the following reasons:
1) Every neighbor must verify their address to use the network.
2) Each neighbor uses their real name to sign in.
3) Each neighbor chooses where their information is shared.
4) The network is securely encrypted using the HTTPS Internet protocol and never shares personal information with third-party advertisers
How can I join Nextdoor?
You can join and verify in a neighborhood as long as you rent a home or own one or two homes, own property where you are planning to build a home, or own a rental home in the neighborhood.
You can join the neighborhood with the following steps:
1) Join your neighborhood
You should create an account on Nextdoor to connect with your neighbors. You do not need an invitation to join Nextdoor.
2) Verify your address
To verify your address, you can choose one of the following ways: phone number, credit or debit card, postcard, last 4 of SSN, LexisNexis, or lead approval.
3) Confirm your email address
When you join Nextdoor, you are advised to click on the confirmation link that we send you in an email to confirm your email address. If you don't follow this step, there will be a red banner at the top of your Newsfeed to remind you of that and finally, you won't receive emails from Nextdoor.
4) Install Nextdoor on your devices
You can download the Nextdoor app on your iPhone, Android, or iPad to take advantage of the network whenever you want and wherever you are.
5) Introduce yourself
After all the steps above are finished, you are supposed to post an introductory message. You can tell about your name, family and hobbies as well as your wishes towards the neighborhood.
How can I encourage conversations between neighborhoods?
The following are some tips which have proved useful:
1) Model the behavior you want to encourage:
You can do a lot of things. For example, fill out your profile and add a profile photo, ask for a recommendation, sell or give something away, welcome new members and thank members for their posts and comments, or post whenever you notice things in the neighborhood.
2) Complete your neighborhood information:
You can add safety information to the Resources section of the Crime & Safety page, ask neighbors to sign up for urgent alerts, or add neighborhood information to the About page. Additionally, you can plan an event using Nextdoor (potluck, communal garage sale, picnic), or ask long-time residents to share stories about the neighborhood's history.
